ARA Students Among the Portrait Finalists in the Kingston Arts Council National Competition
ARA students Diliana Popova and Steven Lewis have both qualified for the Kingston Arts Council National Portrait Competition.
The 30 portrait finalists will be on display at the Grand Theatre (Kingston, ON) from October 9-25, 2009.
Diliana and Steven were selected from among 471 submissions by a jury headed by Professor Robert Enright the prestigious art critic and writer from Guelph University, Eliza Griffiths the painter and Assistant Professor at Concordia in Montreal, and Dr. Lily Loltun the Director-General of te Portrait Gallery of Canada.
The grand prize in this competition is $10,000 and will be presented by the W. Garfield Weston Foundation. Two honorable mention awards of $1,000 each will also be available. These awards will be distributed at the Gala Preview on October 8, 2009.
Following the exhibition, the finalist works will be on a national tour throughout Canada; Wolfville Nova Scotia, Tronto Ontario, Calgary. A people's choice award of $1,000 will be awraded at each of the 4 locations visited.
