Star Portraits - A new Bravo! original series

Star Portraits is an all new original series by Bravo! Canada.  The series was developed by PTC Productions and based on the hit BBC program.  The show is hosted by Broadway star Louise Pitre.

The series begins on September 12th @ 8:00 pm on Bravo! Canada and runs every Saturday until December 12th.

www.bravo.ca and www.starportraits.ca

In each 30 minute episode, 3 Canadian working artists are introduced to a Canadian personality.  They must get work quickly in order to perform as much preliminary work as possible with the star.  They have 2 weeks to complete their portrait.  Louise visits each artists in their studio to see how the work is coming along.  At the end of each episode, the star is presented with the 3 portraits one of which they may select for their personal collection.  The remaining portraits are grouped and 6 selected for the permanent collection of the Canadian Portrait Society.  The rest are auctioned off at Joyner Waddinton's Auction of Important Canadian Art.  The proceeds go to a charity selected by the celebrity.

Academy of Realist Art instructor Juan Carlos Martinez has been selected as one of the artists.  He will be completing the portrait of Alex Trebek on the episode aired on Saturday November 14th @ 8:00 pm.

Diliana Popova & Garrett Vitanza - 'In Body' Art Show

Garrett_BlueMan_thmb.jpg

In Body, an exhibition which includes new portraits by PSA member Diliana Popova opens at the historic Gladstone Hotel on Friday September 4rd.
This exhibition addresses the duality of being in and out of oneself. Through the medium of portraits and figures Diliana, along with fellow emerging artists Lisa Cowen and Garrett Vitanza explore the inner states of their subjects as they appear to the outside observer. By contrasting physicality and spirituality, ‘In body’ puts a contemporary twist on an old dichotomy.
Inspired by the depth and expressive power of the human form, the paintings in this exhibition draw on various aspects of spirituality;  calling on sources derived from personal experience and both eastern and western scriptures.
Meet the artists at the opening night reception on Thursday September 3rd from 7- 10pm at the Gladstone Hotel.

ARA Boston - A Student's Story - The Impossible is Possible!

Joey2_thb.jpg
The impossible is possible!

To Joseph Pfeiffer-Herbert  pursuing his dream to study art full-time in an atelier seemed impossible. He had commitments. He had established a career as a math teacher, he was newly married and was about to embark on a cross country move in order for his wife to pursue her masters degree in science. As luck would have it his wife Anna enrolled at the University of Rhode Island where the New School of Classical Art Atelier was located. This was a program modeled on the Florence Academy program, being taught by one of its’ former instructors, Dana Levin. With encouragement and support from his wife Joseph’s dream went from seeming impossible to becoming reality. Joseph made a leap from the security of the working world and dove full-time into his art studies.

After a couple of years of operation Dana closed her school in December, 2008. Just as this was happening Joseph received notification from the Art Renewal Center that the Academy of Realist Art was opening its’ new Boston location. Joseph enrolled at the Academy right away without skipping a beat in his studies.

With his commitment and focus Joseph is plowing through his ARA assignments. Not only is Joseph living his “impossible” dream he’s working to create even greater possibilities. He has organized a one-man show of his academic drawings. The show is at the Paper Cut Gallery, 250 Main Street, Pawtucket, Rhode Island from March 28 to April 24.  All are invited to the opening reception March 28th from 7 – 9 p.m.

Hope to see you there!

Most workshops are scheduled five days per week, Monday to Friday, with weekends free. The hours are usually 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but will occasionally go to 5:00 p.m. If you are coming from out of town and need local accommodations, we have a list of inexpensive places to stay near the Studios.

Workshop Fees (in Canadian dollars):

One-Week Workshops: $600

Two-Week Workshops: $975, with the early-registration discount. Full price for late bookings is $1,050, so please register as soon as you can confirm your plans.
