Have you ever modified a drawing or painting to see how it would look, only to end up not liking the change and had to spend countless hours undoing what you did? In this virtual workshop, students will learn the basics of Photoshop and how they can use it to optimize the artist’s workflow.
Photoshop is a graphic editor that allows artists to undo changes in seconds while exploring changes in composition, colour palette, and much more. By learning the basics of this software, students will be able to cut guesswork and decrease frustration if used the right way.
Students will be given weekly assignments which are designed to help learn the software. The work will be reviewed in the following class.
Topics covered:
- Photoshop basic user interface (UI) and layout
- Introduction to basics tools
- Creating a new project
- Importing images and saving out files
- Working with layers, organizing with folders, and masking
- Modification layers and additional tools and tricks of Photoshop
This 4-week virtual workshop will convene through Zoom video conferencing on Saturdays:
- June 4 from 1-2 pm ET (introduction)
- June 11 and 18 from 1-3 pm ET
- June 25 from 1-2 pm ET (final critique)
Full workshop price is $300, payable up front to save your spot.
Materials
- Photoshop (students can use the free trial or the other cheapest option would be the Photography package at $12.99/month. Students can cancel after the workshop)
- A computer or laptop that can run the software
- A mouse and keyboard
- Optional: A drawing tablet or Cintiq
